🚨 Mandatory: Every account must have E911 enabled on at least one DID before service activation. Accounts without any E911-enabled DID will not be provisioned.

⚠️ Highly Recommended: Enable E911 on every active DID. 911 calls will connect from any active US or Canadian number. E911 ensures your physical location is automatically sent to emergency responders (PSAP). Without E911, the call will connect but dispatchers will NOT receive your location automatically — you must verbally provide your name, address, and the location of the emergency. This can be critical in a situation where you cannot speak.

PBX & IP Phone users: Federal law (Kari's Law) requires that 911 can be dialed without a prefix. However, many PBX systems also allow dialing 9+911 — both should route correctly. Ensure E911 is enabled on the DID used as outbound caller ID. Every 911 call attempt on a DID without E911 enabled is subject to a $75.00* carrier fee passed through to the customer. *Fee subject to change.

Softphone / Mobile app users: As of October 2021, softphones on mobile devices use the native mobile dialer for 911 calls. Not all softphone apps support this — check with your softphone provider. Enabling E911 on your DID ensures proper routing regardless of device.

VoIP limitations: VoIP-based 911 depends on power, internet connectivity, and network availability. In a power outage or internet disruption, 911 may be unavailable. Consider a backup method (cell phone) for emergencies. ZEGIT Tech Solutions strongly recommends enabling E911 on every active DID.

Outbound calls are still billed at standard per-minute rates — vPRI covers inbound only.

When does it make sense? At $0.009/min inbound cost, a channel running ~46 hours/month of inbound calls breaks even vs per-minute billing. Best for call centers, receptionists, and any business with consistently high inbound volume.

International & Toll-Free DID Numbers
International Local DID NumbersVaries by country Establish a local presence in countries where your clients or offices are located. Instead of paying high international long-distance rates, give your international contacts a local number they can call at local rates — you answer it in the US from your existing setup.

  • Phone not registering: Check credentials, server hostname, confirm port 5060 is open on firewall
  • One-way audio / no audio: Disable SIP ALG on router. Allow UDP 10000–20000 (RTP) through firewall
  • Calls drop after ~30 seconds: SIP ALG issue — disable it on your router
